Multipurpose

Australia’s trucking industry is built off the back of the thousands of truck drivers who transport goods every day. By obtaining a truck driver’s licence, you can open up your career options. One of the heavy vehicle licences to obtain is the Medium Rigid Truck Licence.

Your driver's licence contains information about you, including the vehicles you are permitted to operate and the conditions you must adhere to while on the road.

Medium Rigid Licence

With the MR class licence, you can drive vehicles, which have 2 axles and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) greater than 8 tonnes. The licence also allows towing a trailer with a maximum GVM of 9 tonnes.

You must have held an open car licence for a period of a minimum of 1 year to gain a MR class licence.

Getting A MR Licence

A MR licence allows you to drive any vehicle with 2 axles. It includes certain kinds of trucks, motorhomes, local freight vehicles, and tow trucks.

If you already have a manual licence, you will receive an MR Condition B Licence regardless of whether you take your lessons and test in the MR with an automatic or synchromesh gearbox.

If you have only an automatic driver's licence and do your practical driving test in an automated truck, you will receive an automatic truck driver's licence (MR Condition A). You can, however, take another practical driving test at a later date in any vehicle having a manual gearbox (Car, LR, MR, etc.) to remove the gearbox restriction from your licence, converting it from automatic to manual.

Benefits Of Holding A MR Licence

Driving a truck, especially MR Licence vehicles, can lead to many roles in different industries and locations. Without truck drivers, many industries would collapse.

Many industries rely on heavy vehicles for their smooth functioning of moving their goods from one place to another. Obtaining a MR licence will open up a world of possibilities and also ensure that you can confidently find the right industry and opportunities to grow.

The GHDS is a driving school that has been helping people pass their MR licence test for years. Offering all aspects of training, from theory to practice, the GHDS can help you get your MR licence quicker than anywhere else.

To clear the driving test, you should know the theory and practicality of how to drive. All GHDS trainers have extensive experience to boost your confidence and provide you with the right skills that are required to clear the assessment.

Eligibility Criteria

If you have been holding an open Car licence for 1 year, then you should complete and pass a MR knowledge test. Once you pass the knowledge test, you can give your practical driving test in any TMR (Department of Transport Queensland).
