Multipurpose

Starting out as a new trucker, there are certain things you should know. The information is not intended to frighten you away from work, but to equip you with relevant ideas, and knowledge that will make the first year easy for you.

The first years are the most challenging, and there is no doubt about that. You will make many adjustments such as getting used to the job, familiarizing yourself with the truck you are driving, using your new skill, and getting used to life.

Making The Journey Easier

The first year is tough, but knowing the following will guide you through and make the journey easier.

Getting Driving Experience

When it comes to getting better at the truck driving job, experience is key and vital.  The more experience you have behind the wheel, the better driver you will become.

Minimize Accidents

Accidents are very common in that first year, and you should pay more attention to details that will help in avoiding that. Therefore, it is imperative that you have a goal of no accidents at all.

Do your very best to avoid accidents. They will surely show up on your driving record.

Keep Focused On Your Goals

See, I'm going to tell you the facts. The first year as a beginner in truck driving can be rough, but it is vital not to get discouraged and overwhelmed. The paramount goal is to accumulate seat time and rack up driving experience. There is never any substitute for experience. Therefore, garner all the experience that you can. Always do a good job and keep yourself while doing it. Aim to do your best and avoid damage to the car. As you know, a practice they say makes perfect, but as a truck driver, it is never perfect. With the necessary skills and experience, you get better and better.

Getting Seat Time

Keep in mind that the main goal of that first year as a beginner is the SEAT TIME.  It won't be easy getting seat time, especially for those people who have been hired by a big carrier for a company-sponsored training program.

It All Boils Down To Survival Of The Fittest. Don't Give Up

The ability to survive the toughest stuff shows that you will be able to survive anything that comes your way. Think about this, the trucking company doesn't know you at all and whenever they have got an ugly load to get rid of, they will assign the load to a beginner on board rather than giving it to a valuable experienced driver. It is normal. You will get some ugly work at times, but as time goes on it will get better.  You just have to keep in mind the END goal.

Conclusion

Being open to ideas and information will make the journey easier for you. Get the skills required, be careful with the details, and you'll find the first year incredible.
